Recently, the first distribution network system in China Southern Power Grid responsible for main dispatching functions—the "Edge OCS 2.0 (Distribution Network Dispatching Automation)" system—was successfully put into operation in Zhaotong, Yunnan. Developed with the support of Dongfang Electronics, the system has efficiently completed the transition from the old system and the wrap-up of dual-track operations, achieving full deployment of the new system.
The newly commissioned Edge OCS 2.0 system is built on a cloud-edge fusion architecture, effectively addressing the pain points of traditional distribution network monitoring systems, such as rigid architecture and limited scalability. It has fully demonstrated the feasibility and practicality of new technologies in real-world production scenarios. The system deeply integrates containerization, distributed storage, and cloud-based technologies to create an intelligent monitoring platform with elastic scalability. It enables sub-second failover and automatic recovery in the event of equipment anomalies, ensuring zero interruption to monitoring services. Moreover, breaking through the limitations of traditional architectures, it supports plug-and-play and rapid integration of massive numbers of new energy sources such as distributed photovoltaics and charging piles, significantly improving grid operational efficiency and power supply reliability, while laying a solid technological foundation for residential electricity use and the development of the new energy industry.
The successful parallel operation and primary function takeover of the cloud-based distribution network backup dispatching system in Zhaotong has validated the enhanced role of cloud-edge fusion architecture in grid security monitoring and renewable energy integration. This project serves as a successful case study of replacing the original OCS distribution network platform with the Edge OCS 2.0. As the first edge cluster system officially put into operation within China Southern Power Grid, the construction experience gained from this project can serve as a replicable and scalable benchmark for similar projects across the entire grid.
